In some cases, issues might occur not in the drive shaft itself, but rather, in the drive shaft boots, the drive shaft yoke, or the drive shaft U-joint. Especially with the Honda Pioneer 1000 -- which has a shorter driveline with a bigger motor than it’s smaller-cc counterparts — strange sounds and rumbles often stem from damaged or dry prop shaft boots and prop shaft joints. If your machine rattles when you bump the throttle or makes a terrible dragging sound whenever you hit the brake pedal, you might be able to solve the issue by getting a grease needle, going under the boot lips, and pumping the collars full of grease. In addition to un-greased drive shaft boots, drive shaft chatter can also be caused by slack in the prop shaft splines. By adding a set screw to your prop shaft, you no longer have that slack, and will therefore no longer suffer from that annoying chatter. But whatever drive-shaft-related accessories you need for your Honda Pioneer, be it replacement CV boots or the drive shaft itself, Everything Honda Offroad has what you need to fix and / or upgrade your machine’s drive shaft!
Some riders might require complete Honda Pioneer propeller shaft assemblies, while others might be able to manage with a few replacement Honda Pioneer propeller shaft components. But with everything from yoke joint boots to clips, piston pins, and O-rings for Honda Pioneer propeller shafts, Everything Honda Offroad is sure to have what your vehicle’s prop shaft requires. As the main component in the Honda Pioneer drivetrain, Honda Pioneer prop shafts are responsible for transmitting the spinning power of the engine and transmission to the differentials -- which then deliver that power to the wheels themselves via the axles. Without a properly-functioning propeller shaft, you won’t go far in your side-by-side… that is, unless you’re rolling downhill.
For the P1000, in order to remove your prop shaft, you must first remove the rear floorboard and take the exhaust off at the motor. You can then loosen the three bolts on the rear differential and slide it back far enough to pull the prop shaft out of the rear diff. After that, you can replace the boot and the oil seal, bend the flange to pull it out, and replace the prop shaft, the prop shaft boot, or the entire prop shaft assembly. Buying the boot alone is super cheap, but a whole yoke joint (U-joint) and boot assembly that comes together isn’t going to break the bank by any means.
